Contribution/Achievements as Principal

College with Potential for Excellence |
In 1994-95, when I joined as Principal, the college was running only three traditional undergraduate courses, but today the college is multi-faculty, research oriented and post graduate college which is recognized by UGC as the 'College with Potential for Excellence.' It is the only college out of 178 colleges of Punjab University which has been conferred this status by UGC and is now running about 60 programmes and grant of Rs.2.03 crores has been received from UGC under this scheme. |

Star College in Life Sciences Scheme of DBT |
Under the Star College Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has bestowed the status of "A Star College in Life Sciences and Biotechnology education and training." Under the scheme, a sum of Rs. 72 lakhs has been sanctioned for further strengthening of science at the undergraduate level in the college. With this remarkable accomplishment, the college has added yet another feather in its cap as the college today stands as one of the premier institutions in the region.

Vocational Courses |
We were amongst the first ones in India to start vocationalisation of education in 1994 by starting courses like Biotechnology, Computer Applications, Information Technology, Industrial Chemistry, Biochemistry, Industrial Microbiology, Advertising, Sales Promotion and Sales Management and Functional English.

Innovative Courses in emerging and interdisciplinary areas |
During last five years, three Post Graduate Innovative programmes in emerging and interdisciplinary areas like Bioinformatics, Entrepreneurship and Family Business and Applied Chemistry (Pharmaceuticals) have been added with UGC assistance. The number is comparable to any college or university in India. The college was also pioneer in introducing M.Sc in Biotechnology in the university. The college has also been the first one to have affiliation from AICTE for running MCA programme. The college was again first one to start PG Diplomas in Marketing Management, Personnel Management & Labour Welfare, Computer Applications and Tourism & Travel Management in the university. In all thirteen new academic programs were introduced in the category of Post Graduate Degrees and Post Graduate Diplomas. |

Student Support Services |
Our placement cell ensures employment for the students through campus placements. The students of the college are encouraged to conduct research. Special incentives in terms of money are given for research work. The college has a virtual and digital library. For the all round development of the personality of the students, special emphasis is laid on the extra-curricular, extra mural activities and sports. To tap the latent talent of the students 'Talent Search Contests' are held every year. The students get ample opportunities to exhibit their talents in various inter-college and intra-college fests.

Student Welfare Schemes |
The college has a Counselling Cell which provides guidance and career counselling to students of this region. The students of the college are covered under accidental insurance scheme to the tune of 1 lac. (6 risks are covered under this scheme) The college provides scholarships on economic-merit basis to the tune of Rs 20 Lac. The affluent and meritorious students are motivated to donate their scholarship money to less privileged students with a view to inculcate in them a sense of social responsibility.
